Dan McKenzie - Restoration Specialist & Owner
The roots of Finish Pros go back to Edward’s Auction Gallery. At the age of ten, Dan McKenzie got his start in the business of fine furniture and antiques by assisting his parents, who owned the bustling auction house in Raleigh, North Carolina. By only thirteen years of age, Dan had already “caught the bug” when he began to seek out his own furniture treasures and restore them with his big brother Sean. His love for fine furniture combined with a growing entrepreneurial spirit, and at age sixteen Dan hit the road as a self-proclaimed “auction junkie”, traveling around the Triangle area and buying pieces to restore and sell at a profit. He became increasingly intrigued by the fine craftsmanship and history of older furniture, realizing that for each piece there was a unique story to be told. This growing appreciation for the beauty of antique pieces led Dan to become a certified appraiser at nineteen years old. He began doing appraisals for local and regional universities and museums including NC History Museum, NC State Athletic Department, Duke, NC State Gallery of Art and Design, and The Museum of Albemarle. By the time Finish Pros had acquired its first customer, Dan McKenzie had this wealth of experience and knowledge as its foundation.
What began as a business dedicated solely to providing fine, durable finishes has evolved into the Triangle’s premier upholstery and refinishing business. The knowledge base that Dan McKenzie built as a young man growing up in the fine furniture industry was invaluable to beginning a successful business, but what has really allowed Finish Pros to survive and even prosper through a recently troubled economy is the company’s love and sincere appreciation for its customers. When recently asked about the single most distinguishing quality of his business, Dan answered, “We truly care”. Whether our team is working on an eighteenth century Chippendale sofa or a Lazy Boy recliner from the 1980’s, we want our customers to smile. Nothing pleases us more than to hear the oohs and ahs of a satisfied customer when they first see their newly restored piece of furniture, or their newly refinished kitchen. Finish Pros is dedicated to the idea that each customer should be treated like an invaluable asset, and more importantly, like a friend. This attitude combined with a dedicated attention to detail is what sets Finish Pros apart. We treat each piece as if our success depends solely on its outcome.
Robert Butler- Customer Service & Cabinet Specialist
At Finish Pros, Robert specializes in Raleigh cabinet refinishing, touch ups and custom upholstery estimates and in assisting clients with the measurements and purchase of upholstery textiles. He has successfully completed the Mohawk TouchUp seminar.
Bill Blanton - Custom Upholsterer (over 40 years of experience)
Mr. Blanton is a second generation upholsterer. Over the past Forty-one years he has mastered the upholstery techniques of diamond tufting and matching the most complicated fabrics. Bill leads our team of upholsterers in caring for each piece of furniture as if it were our own.
